Popular Crossover SUVs - Small to Mini SUVs
The Crossover SUV tends to be smaller than standard SUVs and are mostly in the small to compact SUV class. That's just a lot of way to market SUVs and no matter what you call it the smaller SUVs have a large following. These smaller versions of the SUV have better fuel economy and trade that for power and larger cabs of the standard versions.
Ford Escape
A compact SUV that comes in 4cyl 2.3L and 6cyl 3.0L engines. They are sporty looking station wagon type of body with room for passengers and cargo. Most consumers appreciate the fuel economy and comfortable roominess. There were some complaints about the transmission and power at low speeds. The Ford Escape is also available in a natural gas hybrid.
Honda Element
An affordable compact SUV with room and a style of its own. The Element comes in 2WD or all wheel drive with all models using a 4cyl 2.4L engine. Owner appreciate the large openings and cargo space, fuel economy and comfortable passenger areas. Some people criticized the smaller cargo space that lends to passenger comfort and legroom.
Hyundai Tucson
The highly rated Hyundai Tucson is very sporty and attractive compact SUV in a comfortable price range. You can purchase the 2.0L 4cyl or the 2.7L 6cyl in either 4WD or 2WD models. This Tucson comes with all the equipment you want for comfort and has plenty of leg room. The smaller engine in both sizes are sluggish compared to others in this class.
Suzuki Grand Vitara
The Grand Vitara is available for $18k to $25k and has a strong 2.7L 6cyl motor. Suzuki packs a lot of great features and equipment for the price range. Owners also report a smooth ride, comfortable seating, great power and all around style inside and out. Some complain that the rear window is blocked by placement of the spare tire.
Mercury Mariner
The Mariner is a great compact SUV and comes in three styles for about $25k. The economy style is the Mariner Convenience and comes with a 2.3L 4cyl motor. The Luxury and Premier styles both come with a more powerful 3.0L 6cyl. Most consumers appreciate style, roominess and power. The down side is a small gas tank and the smaller front seat does not offer enough leg support.
Honda CRV
This model from Honda gets mixed reviews. The good points are value for price, fuel economy and great for city driving. On the downside consumers complain about a noisy and bumpy ride with poor comfort. The CRV is very well built and considered stylish.
